Elaine Williams

Elaine started to play the Bb Cornet at the age of 4. Her Father was her teacher and he soon made her a member of the City of Oxford Silver Band of which he was the Band Secretary. She remained with the band for fifteen years (1965 -1980). At the age of 10 she became a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain of which she was the leader for her last 4 courses. At 18, Elaine went to the Royal Academy of music in London studying trumpet and piano on the Graduates Course.
In 1980 she became the Brass Champion of the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition which lead to a number of engagements all over Great Britain and Europe.
Over the years, Elaine has played with some of the Countries top Bands and was also the Founder member of Girls Of Brass, an all female Band she put together in 1981. She joined the Hanwell Band in 1980 and remained there for two years before moving to Newham in 1982. Apart from playing with some of the top London based bands, Elaine also played for the Desford Colliery Band from 1984 - 1986. before returning to Newham in the late 80's and Hendon in the early 90's. Elaine is currently the Principal Cornet of the KM Medway Band, a position she has held since 2001.
